Exploring Vocabulary &
Comprehension Instruction
| Reading For Understanding provides a foundational study of vocabulary and comprehension instruction, two of the five essential components of reading. Reading for Understanding features a unique, flexible mix of print and online self-study, face-to-face study groups, and classroom practice that will help participants view comprehension as a development process. |

| Reading for Understanding consists of six modules: | |

The Vocabulary Development Module highlights the importance of vocabulary development in the early elementary grades. |
 |
The Comprehension of Narrative Text Module focuses on the important role that narrative text plays in student literacy. |
 |
The Comprehension of Informational Text Module explains the features of informational text that students will encounter and how to teach them to use |
 |
The Comprehension through Discussion Module concentrates on the factors that affect discussion and the different strategic roles that teachers take during classroom discussion. |

The Comprehension through Writing Module explains the role of writing to promote reading for understanding. |
 |
The Student Motivation Module focuses on motivation in relation to reading achievement. |
| Reading for Understanding reinforces how we teach as well as how our students learn. I enjoy the repetition of doing videos on my own, meeting in groups, and going over the assessments with our coach. |
