Vmath assessments are carefully designed to evaluate all aspects of student learning in math. The information gathered from these assessments fits together like pieces of a puzzle to help teachers:
  1. Tailor intervention to meet student needs
  2. Deliver appropriate pre-teaching and re-teaching strategies
  3. Match instruction to a student's optimal learning range
  4. Continually monitor student progress
Assessment Puzzle
Progress Assessments Powered by the Quantile Framework® for Mathematics Quantile Framework for Mathematics
Progress Assessments are administered four times throughout the school year to monitor student progress. These tests cover all five content strands in the NCTM Standards—number sense and operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, and data analysis and probability. Each 30-item test yields a Quantile Measure that indicates to teachers what mathematics the student is ready for next and provides an indication of how a student is likely to perform on his or her state assessment.

Initial Assessment Initial Assessment have 40-50 questions
The Initial Assessment can be given to the entire class or designated students at the beginning of Vmath instruction. This assessment identifies weaknesses of individual struggling students and determines (along with district criteria) appropriate entry points into instruction.

Each Initial Assessment consists of 40 questions that act as indicators of understanding of skills taught in each Vmath module. Scores provide indicators of where students begin struggling with the material, and recommends a starting place in the instructional sequence.

Computational Fluency Assessments are given three times during the year. Unlike the multiple-choice format of the Initial and Final Assessments and the Module Pre-Tests and Post-Tests, these assessments require written student responses. Results indicate student progress over the entire grade level, and the measures are predictors of future success.

In addition to the three Benchmarks, Progress Monitoring Assessments are given at the midpoint of each module, and help teachers monitor student progress between benchmarks.

Pre- and post-tests provide information needed to monitor student growth and mastery of the concepts, skills, and strategies taught in each module. Each test has 10 multiple-choice items.

Pre-Tests determine students' prior knowledge of module content, such as adding and subtracting fractions. Post-Tests determine students' degree of mastery of module content after instruction.

Informal Assessment
Independent Practice
Ongoing informal assessments help teachers gauge student understanding. Vmath lessons facilitate opportunities to see students' reactions to instructions, to listen as students respond to the frequent questions, and to evaluate daily work. Lessons include specific review and reteaching suggestions, and appropriate questioning techniques.

The Final Assessment is given to the entire class or designated students upon completion of the full Vmath course of instruction or at the end of the school year. By comparing scores from the Initial and Final Assessments, teachers and coaches can document student growth and mastery throughout the course of intervention.
I LOVE doing the pre-test and post-test, because it is direct feedback on how well the concepts that have been taught were mastered. It is so exciting to give a pre-test and the students clearly do not have a grasp of the concept being tested, then at the end of the module that you teach, you administer the post-test and the results are sometimes staggering.
