| Effective Measurement Tools |
| The Universal Literacy System incorporates a robust, comprehensive assessment system that includes Vital Indicators of Progress (VIP) measures, VPORT® data management, and Assessment Checkpoints. |
VIP Assessment & Progress Monitoring |
VIP targets alphabet knowledge, phonemic awareness, phonics, and fluency. The VIP assessment system is completely equivalent to DIBELS developed by Drs. Roland Good and Ruth Kaminiski and colleagues at the University of Oregon based on the work of Deno (1985).
Benchmark Assessments
VIP provides standardized measures at four benchmarks to assess student progress throughout the school year. Results from the benchmarks identify a student as struggling, emerging, or on-track. Teachers use this information to group students for small group instruction and make instructional decisions.
Progress Monitoring
In between benchmarks, VIP measures can be used to monitor student progress as often as once a week. This is essential for struggling and low-emerging readers. |

| VPORT™ Data Management |
VIP scores are input into VPORT, Voyager's data management system. Student data is analyzed and designates students as struggling, emerging, or on-track. This secured information provides designated access for teachers, building coaches, principals, and superintendents. |
| Assessment Checkpoints |
| In addition to VIP measures, Assessment Checkpoints are administered every six weeks, and assess students' proficiency with specific skills taught in the preceding daily lessons. |
