Voyager Expanded Learning Honors Feds Creek
Elementary School Administrators with Founder's Award

Feds Creek, Kentucky - December 4, 2007− Feds Creek Elementary School Principal, Harold Wallace and Reading Coach, Jeana Fields, were presented with the Voyager Founder's Award at a dinner on October 25, 2007, held in their honor at the Eastern Kentucky Exposition Center in Pikesville.

The Founder's Award is given to educators who, through the implementation of Voyager programs in their districts, demonstrate leadership in winning the battle to achieve unprecedented, measurable gains in moving low-performing students and schools to standard, while substantially closing the achievement gap.

Ron Klausner, president of Voyager Expanded Learning, and Curtis Williams, regional director, presented Mr. Wallace and Ms. Fields with the award. The award included a donation of $2000 to the school.

During the 2006-2007 school year, Feds Creek was one of only five schools that reached Platinum level status, which means that 97 percent of students enrolled in the Voyager Universal Literacy System were reading on track. Ninety-seven percent of students were also at or above grade level on the GRADE test. And, before implementing Voyager, Feds Creek had an average of 17 students in special education. Now after three years of the program, there are no students that receive special education services in kindergarten through third grade.

"Voyager has enabled Feds Creek Elementary to go from average to awesome in reading. I am happy to say that we are one of five Voyager Platinum schools and we are the recipient of the Voyager Founders award," Mr. Wallace said.

Feds Creek Elementary School implements the Voyager Universal Literacy System® as its core reading program in grades kindergarten through third grade.

The Founder's Award is given in honor of Voyager co-founder and former vice-chairman Admiral Thomas B. Hayward, U.S. Navy (ret.). One of the nation's true heroes and patriots, Admiral Hayward was the driving force behind Voyager's growth as a mission-driven company dedicated to making a difference in reading for millions of children. Admiral Hayward remains the guardian of Voyager’s commitment to quality educational programs and services that deliver unprecedented results for historically low-performing students, schools, and districts. It is in his honor and in recognition of his efforts that the Voyager Founder's Award is presented to educators responsible for initiating change and increasing student achievement.
