Voyager Expanded Learning Launches Vmath Math Intervention Program for Grades 3-8
Program Helps Students Reach Grade-level Math Proficiency and Improve Performance on High-stakes Assessment
DALLAS, December 9, 2005 – Voyager Expanded Learning® today announced the launch of Vmath®, a new intervention program that provides struggling math students in grades three through eight with 30-40 minutes of targeted, systematic, daily instruction to bring them to grade-level proficiency and improve their outcomes on standardized tests.
Built on Voyager’s proven-effective reading intervention model, Vmath quickly identifies struggling math students, intervenes with explicit, scaffolded instruction and monitors progress until intervention is no longer needed.
“We are in an era where accountability matters and Voyager understands what districts need to help students succeed,” says Richard Monnard, senior vice president of curriculum at Voyager. “We built Vmath based on the same principles and goals as our reading intervention programs, to help bring struggling students to grade-level and achieve proficiency on high-stakes assessments.”
Each Vmath grade level contains 10 modules; each module includes seven to 15 lessons falling into three categories: concept development, skill development and problem solving.
Teachers and administrators implementing Vmath can track student progress using Voyager’s online data management system, VPORT®. A pre- and post- test component also lets teachers determine if students have mastered key skills, and a test prep component gives students opportunities for self-assessment and review.
Teachers receive year-long service and support from Voyager through an ongoing partnership that includes comprehensive professional development through launch training, a training kit with video tutorials, and support via phone, email and the Voyager Website.
Several well-known researchers served as members of the Vmath design team, including: Dr. Michael Hynes, University of Central Florida; Dr. David Rock, University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth; Linda Gojack, John Carroll University; Terri Belcher, Lawrence Hall of Science, University of California; Dr. Marsy Stein, University of Washington-Tacoma; Dr. Russell Gersten, University of Oregon; and Dr. Mark Shinn, National-Louis University.
Vmath works with any core math program and can be effectively used for all intervention programs, whether during the school day, after school, weekend or summer school.
