Voyager Evaluation Summary Report Shows Student Gains after Using Vmath
Dallas - November 6, 2007− Voyager Expanded Learning® announced today that students in state, district and school level implementations, as well as special education subgroups, demonstrated unprecedented gains after using the company's math intervention program, Vmath®. The dramatic student gains are noted in the newly released Voyager Summary of Effectiveness report on Vmath. The report features information about the Vmath program, national results, state-wide results in Alabama and Texas and additional success stories from individual districts and schools in Texas and Florida.
For example, sixth-grade students at Aliceville Middle School in Aliceville, Alabama, who received instruction with Vmath demonstrated gains as measured by the STAR Math Assessment, moving from a 5.2 grade level equivalent to 7.4 during the course of the year. The passing rate on the Alabama Reading and Mathematics Test (ARMT) increased from 57 percent in 2005-2006 to 82 percent in 2006-2007 for this cohort. The SAT 10 passing rate for these sixth-grader students increased from 36 percent in 2005-2006 to 64 percent in 2006-2007.
"Since the implementation of Vmath, we have seen an increase in student performance on various assessments that ultimately produced significant increases on state and national assessments. We will continue to use the Vmath program because it is making a difference in the lives of our students," says Tammy Brown, Aliceville Middle School reading and math coach.
Vmath is Voyager's math intervention program that provides struggling math students in grades three through eight with targeted, 30-40 minutes of systematic, daily instruction to bring them to grade-level proficiency and improve their outcomes on standardized tests.
Built on Voyager's proven-effective reading intervention model, Vmath enables teachers to quickly identify students who are struggling with math, and intervene with explicit, scaffolded instruction while monitoring progress until intervention is no longer needed.
Each Vmath grade level contains 10 modules; each module includes seven to 15 lessons falling into three categories: concept development, skill development and problem solving.
Teachers and administrators implementing Vmath can track student progress using Voyager's online data management system, VPORT®. A pre- and post- test component also lets teachers determine if students have mastered key skills, and a test prep component gives students opportunities for self-assessment and review.
Teachers receive year-long service and support from Voyager through an ongoing partnership that includes comprehensive professional development through launch training, a training kit with video tutorials, and support via phone, email, and the Voyager Website.
Vmath works with any core math program and can be effectively used during the school day, after school, weekend or summer school programs.
VmathLive provides a blended solution of print and technology that extends the time students spend learning and practicing essential math skills. The interactive environment motivates and engages math students, reinforces the same concepts and skills taught in core math programs and provides practice in a high-stakes test format.
The topics and content in VmathLive are aligned to Voyager's math intervention system, Vmath®, and includes several state-specific courses aligned to high-stakes assessments.
