Voyager Passport™ Students in Miami-Dade County Continue
to Increase FCAT, SAT-10 and NRT Scores

Dallas, September 15, 2006−Students at Norwood Elementary School in Miami-Dade County showed significant increases this year on three independent assessments, the Stanford Achievement Test (SAT-10), the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) and the Norm-Referenced Test (NRT) after using Voyager Passport™, a reading intervention program developed by Voyager Expanded Learning®.

After 26 weeks in the program, 73 percent of second-graders scored at or above the 50th percentile on the 2006 SAT-10, a 28 percent increase compared to 2005 when only 57 percent passed the assessment.

The positive impact on third-grade students who had been previously retained was especially dramatic. Eighty-nine percent of Norwood's previously retained third-graders passed the FCAT after participating in Voyager Passport. Before Voyager Passport, none of these students were predicted to pass the high-stakes test. "Our third grade scores were awesome, and we owe it all to Voyager!" said Frances Rotford, principal at Norwood Elementary.

In fourth grade, 76 percent of students scored at or above the national norms on the NRT in 2006, compared to 37 percent in 2005, before Voyager Passport. Sixty-two percent of fifth-graders scored at or above the national norms on the 2006 NRT, compared to 57 percent in 2005.

Norwood Elementary serves more than 450 students in pre-K through sixth grade. The student population is 88 percent African-American, 7 percent Hispanic, 3 percent Caucasian and 2 percent Asian/Pacific Islander. Eighty-one percent of students are eligible for free- or reduced-price lunch and 32 percent of students are in special education

"Using the Voyager program helped us to reach an extraordinary level of achievement and gave us the confidence in our ability to work as a team to accomplish tremendous success," said Rotford.
