Crestview Elementary Increases Overall FCAT
Scores after Implementing Voyager Passport

Eighty-Three Percent of At-Risk Third-Graders Pass FCAT

Dallas, July 18, 2006−Third-graders at Crestview Elementary continue to increase their FCAT pass rate every year since implementing the Voyager Passport™ reading intervention program, developed by Voyager Expanded Learning®.

Before Crestview began using Voyager Passport in the 2002-2003 school year, 60 percent of students passed the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). After implementing Voyager Passport during the 2003-2004 school year, 65 percent of Crestview students passed the assessment. In the 2004-2005 school year, 67 percent of students passed and this year, 79 percent of students passed the FCAT.

"Every year we have seen a significant increase in our FCAT scores," says Dr. Mildred Mejia, Crestview Elementary School principal. "We are reaching out to our students through the Voyager Passport program."

During the 2005-2006 school year, Crestview used Voyager Passport with 36 Tier II third-graders at risk of failing the FCAT to increase reading achievement and overall student performance. After the 26-week intervention program, 83 percent of these at-risk students passed the 2006 FCAT.

Crestview Elementary School is located in Miami, Florida, and serves 823 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. School demographics are: 95 percent African-American, 3 percent Hispanic, 1 percent Caucasian and 1 percent Asian/Pacific Islander. Sixty-eight percent of students at Crestview are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch.
