Voyager Universal Literacy System Schools Earn "Banners of
Achievement" for Reading Proficiency

Dallas, March 31, 2006 – Voyager Expanded Learning® announced today that 69 schools in 32 districts across the country that implement the Voyager Universal Literacy System® earned Voyager "banners of achievement" for the 2005-2006 school year.

The Voyager Universal Literacy System is a comprehensive kindergarten through third grade reading system designed to accomplish what the National Reading Panel report says is possible, that 90-95 percent of children in America can learn to read.

Schools awarded banners achieved a target of 80 percent or more students reading proficiently, based on Vital Indicators of Progress® (VIP®) scores. Vital Indicators of Progress are reading assessments built in to all Voyager reading programs and are completely equivalent to the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills™ (DIBELS™) created by Dr. Roland Good.

In silver banner schools, 80-89 percent of students are reading at grade level. In gold level schools, 90-95 percent of students are on track, and platinum level schools achieved a remarkable 96-100 percent literacy rate. Voyager also recognizes teachers with platinum-, gold- and silver-colored plaques based on the percentage of students reading at grade-level proficiency in their classrooms, using the same criteria as for the schools. More than 600 Voyager teachers received plaques this year.
