Voyager Expanded Learning Announces 2009 World Math Day Video Challenge Winner

DALLAS, March 3, 2009- Congratulations to Ka' ala Elementary School in Wahiawa, Hawaii, the winner of the 2009 World Math Day Video Challenge presented by Voyager Expanded Learning(R) in partnership with TeacherTube. The talented and confident young Gabby surely won the hearts of many with her presentation on how she and her class prepare for World Math Day with an insightful tour of the actual process through the eyes of a student.

As the Video Challenge winner, Ka' ala will receive a trophy, a visit from Vbot, Voyager's VmathLive mascot and a one-year classroom license of VmathLive, the company's online math program. The winning video will also be used to promote World Math Day throughout 2009. Schools from across the country entered the 2009 World Math Day Video Challenge by recording a two-to-three minute video of students preparing for World Math Day and uploading it at www.TeacherTube.com.

All finalists will receive a one-year classroom license:

-- Southwestern Elementary School in Georgia whose creative year-round preparation for World Math Day was the voters' choice and an early standout with 3,450 votes! A+ for originality and student involvement! -- 7th Grade Rap whose memorable lines will resonate throughout the halls of Voyager for years to come. Can anyone say future record deal?

-- Fannie Bush Elementary in Winchester, Kentucky whose practical applications of math in everyday use was unmatched! With memorable lines and an enthusiastic host named Emma, one thing is certain...these kids are preparing for greatness!

-- It Takes a Village whose young stars from West Hollywood's Center for Early Education really know how to put on a performance! The school's anchor and beat reporter worked in perfect tandem and have certainly set the bar for future contests!

-- Sweating to Flashcards whose workout proved that students can take an "active" role in preparing for World Math Day. The energy level that these students from Reno, Nevada exuded was bar none.

-- On World Math Day who garnered 3,297 votes to finish as the second leading vote getter in this year's contest. The students at Powell Valley Middle School in Virginia deserve extra credit for their rendition of "Eye of the Tiger."

-- Another One Bites the Dust, or Not who came in with the third largest number of votes. The students from Afton-Lakeland Elementary School in Lakeland, Minnesota put on a great performance. After our two young stars in the video get hooked on World Math Day not even the pretend Paris Hilton has a chance getting a word in.

-- From an F to an A where young Randy, a Bay Point Middle Schooler from Florida, is trained by his good buddy "Algebra" with a steady dose of World Math Day practice. This video may have been relatable to some, but it was certainly entertaining for all! Great work!

-- Nu'uanu Elementary School World Math Day in Hawaii where students across several grade levels compete, seemingly unaware of any video camera. You just can't stage this level of engagement!

The top 10 videos that received the most votes via TeacherTube advanced to the finals. Videos of the final round were judged by a select panel of educators and determined the winner based on the following criteria:

--Creativity

--Level of Student Involvement

--Relevance to World Math Day

Voyager Expanded Learning would like to congratulate Ka ala Elementary School and thank everyone for their enthusiasm and participation.
