Voyager's Universal Literacy program, HidingPlaces, takes second graders on
a yearlong adventure to discover habitats of the world and the mysteries of
outer space. Each 2½-hour lesson includes scientifically based, systematic
instruction designed to teach all children to read. Learning Stations engage
students as they work cooperatively to complete activities that reinforce prior
learning as the teacher focuses on the instructional needs of a small group.
Intensive support is provided for readers who have yet to master key reading
skills. Challenging enrichment activities are included for on track readers
as well. Teachers will appreciate the easy-to-use, detailed lesson plan guides
and support materials in the program. HidingPlaces guides teachers and students
from backyards, across deserts, through wetlands, into forests, up mountains,
into caves and out to space while building a strong foundation of reading skills
and strategies.
