Students from Shawnee Mission and El Paso Recognized at Separate Awards Ceremonies for Top Placement in Back to School Math Mania Challenge Fourth- and fifth-graders at Ray Marsh Elementary School in Shawnee Mission, Kan., and fifth-graders at Coldwell Elementary in El Paso, Texas recently celebrated their top placements in the Back to School Math Mania Challenge. On Oct. 27, Ray Marsh held a pep rally to honor the students, who, in addition to leading the school to an overall Math Mania victory, also achieved classroom and individual success. The school placed first among all participating schools, Ms. Lord's fourth grade class came in first place among all classrooms, and the top student honor went to Josh S., who earned 17,007 points. Additionally, Ms. Darby's fifth grade class came in third among all classrooms. Other Ray Marsh students who placed in Math Mania's top 10 include Emma R. (2nd), Kaden B. (3rd), Ava G. (4th), Wil V. (8th) and Ben A. (10th). As students cheered and gave high-fives at Ray Marsh, students in Mr. Marshall's class at Coldwell Elementary School enjoyed their own award presentation. Featured on the local El Paso news station, ABC 7, Mr. Marshall's class was awarded a pizza party and recognized by parents and school administrators for the class's top five placement in the Math Mania Challenge. Four students also received Math Mania trophies. Top 10 Math Mania winners from Mr. Marshall's class include Alondra R. (5th), Alexander H. (6th), Kevin B. (7th), and Matthew R. (9th). Vbot also made an appearance to help recognize the students for their accomplishments. He was part of the prep rally in Shawnee Mission, but Vbot was unable to attend the celebration in El Paso due to inclement weather. However, Vbot's visit to El Paso has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 18, beginning at 9 a.m. During the Back to School Math Mania Challenge held on Sept. 15 and 16, students competed against one another to answer the most math questions correctly. In this particular challenge, students competed against other students throughout the Southwest region, including students in Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
